KC Burgess Yakemovic is the founder of KCBY Consulting, an online company. You may contact her by email, through the Contact page.
KC has been working with the Issue Based Information System (IBIS) method since the late 1980’s. This was when she first met Jeff Conklin at MCC, a computer industry research and development consortium in Austin TX. Almost immediately after being introduced to the concept she began to teach others within her organization to use it, including internationally via email. KC has over 20 years of experience teaching the IBIS method to an international audience, online!
Initially, KC applied the IBIS method to capturing and organizing design rationale: the “why” behind the way software systems were designed. Later, she used the IBIS method for general meeting information capture, as it proved to be a straightforward organizational structure for this type of information.
KC took Jeff Conklin’s Dialogue Mapping™* workshop, in 2004, and began practicing the method as opportunities arose. She was licensed as a Dialogue Mapper by CogNexus Institute in 2011. She has worked with IBIS and Dialogue Mapping on projects with small start-up to large multinational companies. This includes a number of Fortune 500 companies who consider her training and assistance to be a proprietary competitive edge. Unfortunately, this makes it hard to show examples of her work! During her career she has worked on projects within the following industries
In 2009, KC began teaching the Issue Mapping Webinar series with CogNexus Institute. In 2013 she completely redesigned and redeveloped the IBIS method and Compendium software training content for CogNexus Group. The instruction and examples are now immediately relevant to those working in a business environment. The courses offered by KCBY Consulting are co-marketed with CogNexus Group.
In 2015, KC published the book Help! I have to think!: An approach to working through life’s big challenges, to provide information about using the IBIS method, in a text based format, to anyone experiencing a challenge that they need to think through.
Lest you think she is all work and no play, KC also is a classically trained soprano, who continues to perform. She also has a wonderful Golden Retriever rescue, Max, who loves to play and demands attention when she has spent too many hours at the computer!
